.IMPORTANT NOTICE!
TO ALL TRURO PROPERTY OWNERS
At the direction of the Board of Selectmen, the Energy Committee is taking the lead on developing a Climate Protection Plan, as Truro’s effort to prepare for, cope with, and—we hope—prevent the worst consequences of the climate change crisis (or global warming). Our town is directly threatened. especially by storm surges on its beaches and low-lying areas, as well as sharing the general plight of the world from our not having realized that our ways of living, based on easy access to cheap fossil fuels, would have so many bad consequences.
While we wait for decisive action by governments, there is a great deal that each of us can—and, sooner or later—must do to learn more efficient ways of using energy of all kinds, and thus to diminish our personal contributions to the greenhouse gases that are causing the climate to change. The Energy Committee, sometimes called Truro’s Green Team, will be reaching out to everyone for ideas about how to save energy and use it more efficiently, and to share what we have been able to learn so far. We hope to make increasing use of this, the Town’s web site, as a means of two-way communication with other citizens.
The first step in preparing an overall plan, which will be presented to you at a forthcoming Town meeting, is to take some baseline measurements. That is, we need to find out how much energy the entire town was using at a starting year so that we can check after a few years and find out how much effect the policies and life-style changes recommended have had.
The present survey is part of that baseline study. We need to know how people are currently using energy (in all its forms—electricity; petroleum-based fuels like propane, gasoline, and heating oil; wood; coal, and renewables) and what current practices are, in many little aspects of daily life that we often do not realize expend energy unnecessarily. Our survey questionnaire is being mailed to all box-holders, and appears on the following web pages. It is urgent that we get returns from as many people as possible! When you get your mailing, you will find that you can complete it with a series of check-marks in little boxes, plus a few blanks to be filled in, and that you can return it by dropping off the completed form at Julie Dupree’s desk at Town Hall, or by mailing it to Box 1087, Truro 02666. But you may find it easier and cheaper to download the following two pages, enter your responses, and then email them back to this address: capebobholt@comcast.net.
Please send any comments, suggestions, or complaints to that same address.
