Accessibility
The Truro Public Library aims to be a welcoming space for all. While we're not perfect, we hope that you'll help us get better by letting us know what we can do to make our space more accessible.
Please note that home delivery and curbside pickup are available to all patrons regardless of ability. Please call or email the library to schedule a delivery.
Parking & Entrances:
For the closest handicap-placard parking spaces, please drive slightly past the front (northern) entrance to the building and park in either the parallel spots along the eastern side of the building immediately past the front entrance ramp, or go past the building and park in the first vertical spots closest to the building and use the rear entrance ramp, which leads you directly to the circulation desk. The front entrance ramp is located at the northeast corner of the building and is closest to the Community Room, where most library programs are held.
Elevator:
The lower level is accessible via elevator or stairs, both of which are located past the circulation desk on the right-hand side (or northwest corner) of the building.
Service animals:
Library staff will never demand proof for legitimacy or need of a service animal. Library staff will do everything possible to ensure that service animals are able to perform their work unimpeded and request that patrons do likewise.
All animals brought into the building must be tethered to and stay within 6 feet of their human companion at all times and must not approach other animals or humans without invitation.
We respectfully request that all dogs entering the library be treated with a flea preventative, as all of our floors are carpeted.
Collections:
In addition to regular print books, magazines, and other materials, the library offers the following formats for written works:
Large Print
Audio books, essays, and short stories on CD
Wonderbooks for all reading levels, in regular and large print
Perkins/NLS Talking Books
For patrons who qualify, the library will help you apply for a Perkins (inside MA) or other NLS (outside of MA) account so that you can receive Talking Book cartridges and/or Large Print delivered to your home free of charge. The library also offers a small selection of Perkins talking books for patrons to borrow.
Ebook/Eaudio:
Assistive Technology:
CloverBook Pro XL Video Magnifier with optional, extended screen
Off-hour visits by appointment:
Off-hour visits, home delivery, and curbside pickup are subject to staff availability.
Programming:
We are proud to host a chapter of the Next Chapter Book Club (NCBC) here in Truro, in an effort to offer opportunities for regular social connections, authentic community inclusion, and life-long learning to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We hope that anyone interested in being a member or a facilitator will contact us to learn more. Download a document with more information about the club and why people like to join (PDF). If you are interested in joining, please contact Maggie Hanelt at the Library.
